a little bit about me

 My entire family of origin came to faith when my dad battled and died from cancer in 1978. I was 16 when that happened (he was 36) and since that time I have had the enormous gift of mature men who have walked with, equipped, and coached me over the years. Most importantly about me, following Jesus is the only hope I have of living this life with purpose, energy and expectation. 

I have been married to Sue since 1984 and have a family that I deeply love and enjoy, even though it is always a challenging and beautiful adventure. I have a BS in Biblical Studies and a Masters in Organizational Leadership. I have been a certified Coach since 2009 and supporting great leaders is one of the greatest joys of my life.

I am the Lead Pastor of Summit Church in Centennial, CO. I am the Church’s third and sixth Pastor in its history. We are an inter-generational church obsessed with changing the world through more and better followers of Jesus,  by  activating  the  reproductive  impulse  of  every  believer  in  their  relational  network.  (The  Oikos  Principle)

I've been a youth pastor, sports writer, sales consultant, air traffic controller, church planter, lead pastor.,  and  denominational  leader.  I  have  published  one  book  and  have  two  more  in  the  pipeline.  I  do  a  podcast  with  my  youngest  son,  Jonathan,  called,  “Upstream  with  Jim  and  Jon”.

I am flat out in love with Jesus and am intimately acquainted with pain, depravity, deep despair and profound joy.

Church Leadership – I have planted a church in Texas, led a 150-year old small church in Montana, a mid-sized church in Denver, a mega-church and private school in Olympia, Washington.,  and  now  a  revitalization  back  in  Denver.

Organizational Structures – An outside perspective of your inside culture always leads to new insights. Helping you gain clarity on your organizational strengths, gaps, and growth opportunities is my strength. I can help you lead your church, ministry, or non-profit to go further faster.

Spiritual Care – Who you are is more important than what you do. Being precedes doing because the messenger is the message. I can help you discover what’s going on in your soul, choose your best path forward, and live your life with more focus and joy.
